The Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), has commissioned new accommodation blocks for personnel and a rehabilitation centre in Kano.
The Independent mirror reports that in a statement by the Director of Media and Advocacy at NDLEA Headquarters, Femi Babafemi, the initiative is in line with President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to enhancing the welfare of security personnel across the country
The event included the unveiling of terrace flats for officers of the Zonal Command, Kano Command, Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport Command, and members of the Strike Force Team.
According to Marwa, “We are acutely aware that the effectiveness of our officers hinges not merely upon their training and tools, but also upon the quality of their living conditions.
A secure and decent home front empowers the spirit, sharpens the mind, and steels the resolve of those tasked with the solemn duty of safeguarding our society from the scourge of illicit drugs.”
Marwa said the first NDLEA barracks was commissioned in Yola, Adamawa State, and that a similar facility in Abuja is ready for commissioning.
Buba Marwa also mentioned that other housing projects are ongoing in Enugu and Lagos.
“These structures we commission today are not mere edifices of brick and mortar; they are symbols of peace, assurance, and respect,” he said.
“They reflect the value we place on our officers and an affirmation of our enduring pledge to uplift their standard of living.”
Marwa also spoke on the Kano Command’s activities over the past year. “As a state with an international border and an international airport, the importance of securing Kano against drug trafficking cannot be overstated,”
He said. “While we applaud the performance so far, we also look forward to even greater results in the future.”
Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), has called on officers and men of the Agency to remain resolute in their fight against illicit drug trafficking and abuse across Nigeria.
Marwa decorated Maryam Gambo Sani, Zonal Commander of Zone 5 Command, with the rank of Deputy Commander General of Narcotics (DCGN), and acknowledged the support of President Tinubu and other stakeholders.
