Police Killed 24 people, detained 1200 In #EndBadGovernance Protest – Amnesty International

Amnesty International has said the Nigerian Police killed at least 24 people and detained 1200 protesters during nationwide #EndBadGovernance protests between August 1-10, 2024 across major cities.

The Independent mirror reports that the Isah Sunusi country Director made this on Thursday 28 November, 2024, during a media press and presentation of protest reports tagged : “Bloody August: Nigerian Government’s Violent Crackdown on #Endbadgovernance Protests”

Isah Sunusi said the Nigerian police killed 12 people at Kurna Rijiyar Lemo and Kofar Nasarawa in Kano state, while in Jigawa 3 people were killed at Hadejia, and 1 person was killed at Kofar Sauri, Katsina State.

Also in Kaduna State, a minor was killed by a solider in Zaria while police killed one person in Kaduna, 3 also killed in Maiduguri, at A. A. Kime Filling Station at Bolori Junction.

In Niger State, at least, 3 people were killed along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway, all in a report gathered includes videos and photographs, as well as from eyewitnesse and acquaintances on the ground.

“President Bola Tinubu and his government must conduct effective investigations into the allegations of human rights violations during the #EndBadGovernance protests,” Isah Sunusi said.

He concluded that those killed included 20 young people, an older person, and two children, “two survivors suffered injuries after being shot by police in the arm and legs, others were suffocated by the indiscriminate use of tear gas.

He said the Nigerian authorities must hold the police and other security agencies to account for unleashing deadly force on people who did not constitute an imminent threat to lives.
