Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, was on Saturday honoured in the United Kingdom for his commitment to and support for sports development in the state.
The Independent Mirror reports our correspondent reports that the award presentation ceremony took place at Feel Good Too, Ive Farm Sports Arena, located at Pavilion Walk in London.
The Patron of W.O. Sports, Moses Andishu, who presented the award, said it was aimed at appreciating the governor for his consistent efforts towards the development of sports in Kano State.
Moses, who is also the National Patron of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), said the award was a token of appreciation for the governor and an encouragement for him to do more towards the growth of the sports industry.
He said, “This is our token way of saying kudos to Mr Governor, and our aim is to encourage him to do more for the growth of the industry.
“We have noticed the reforms being carried out at Kano Pillars Football Club. We are also aware of the ongoing efforts at the Kano State Sports Commission (KSSC). Kano Pillars is taking a new shape again, while the state’s various sports teams now honour national invitations to major competitions. This is worth encouraging.
“We are very much aware of the plans by the governor, who is investing massively in the provision of sports infrastructure. Likewise, we have seen investments made to renovate and upgrade major sports facilities in the state.
“We just want to say thank you to His Excellency and encourage him to invest more in sports.”
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Youth and Sports, Sani Musa Danja, who received the award on behalf of the governor, said the state was delighted and honoured by the recognition.
“We are very delighted and happy. His Excellency does not joke with anything that has to do with the development of the youths, and he has always assured us that he will do everything possible to support the growth of Kano youths.
“I receive this award on behalf of His Excellency, my governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, with humility and honour.
“His works testify to his passion and commitment to sports development. His agenda is to always ensure that Kano athletes compete among the best by providing all the requirements needed for the state to excel in sports.
“Be rest assured that with my governor in charge, sports development will always remain a priority under the Kano First Agenda,” he said.
