President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has met with the Chief Executive Officer of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGi), Ismaeel Ahmad, to discuss the rising cost of petrol linked to the ongoing crisis in the Middle East and possible solutions to cushion its impact on Nigerians.

The Independent Mirror reports that Ahmad disclosed on his Facebook page that the meeting focused on the role of the PiCNG programme and electric vehicles (EVs) in addressing the growing transportation costs across the country.

According to him, he briefed the president on plans to ensure the availability of compressed natural gas nationwide by rapidly expanding refuelling infrastructure and deploying vehicle conversion kits for motorists willing to switch from petrol-powered engines to CNG.

He added that the initiative also plans to introduce tricycles powered by alternative energy alongside the installation of EV charging stations to promote affordable transportation.

Ahmad said the overall objective of the programme is to reduce transportation costs for Nigerians while expanding the use of gas and electric vehicles as competitive energy options for mobility across the country.
