The Kano State Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs, in collaboration with the International Institute of Journalism (IIJ), AUSAM Communications Ltd, has launched a training program for Senior Special Reporters (SSR) and Special Reporters, (SR) reporters.
The Independent Mirror reports that Speaking to the press during the event, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, described this as a major achievement for Kano State and its government.
According to Waiya, the training is aimed at equipping government officials who report to the Governor, known as SSR and SR, with journalistic skills to enable them to accurately report and disseminate information.
He stated that the Governor had directed that these officials receive special training to enhance their skills, given the similarity between their work and that of journalists.
Waiya also revealed that the training is a collaborative effort with the International Institute of Journalism and AUSAM Communication LTD, and would last for four days, after which participants would receive certificates.
He added that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had introduced the positions of SR and SSR to create job opportunities for youth, and that this training would help them tackle the challenge of spreading fake news.
In his remarks, the Governor’s representative and Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa, expressed delight at the level of commitment shown by the participants.
Musa urged all SSR, SR, and other state government officials to be trustworthy and diligent in their work, and to strive to meet their responsibilities with integrity.
The training event began on Monday at the Aliko Dangote Auditorium of Bayero University Kano, and was attended by key stakeholders from the Kano State government.
