The Executive Chairman of Shanono Local Government Area, Hon. Abubakar Barau Barau, has expressed his heartfelt sympathy to residents affected by the heavy rainfall and strong windstorm that struck on the night of May 26, 2025.
The Independent Mirror reports that this was contained in a statement issued to journalists this morning by the Chairman’s Spokesperson, Ammar Wakili Shanono.
The unfortunate weather incident caused significant damage to homes and properties across various communities, leaving many families in distress.
Describing the incident as “deeply saddening,” the Chairman noted that it disrupted livelihoods and brought hardship to numerous households.
Hon. Barau Barau stated, “It is with deep concern that I extend my sympathies to all individuals and families affected by the storm. I share in your pain and stand with you during this difficult period.”
He has directed the Local Government Emergency Management Committee to commence an immediate assessment of the affected areas and ensure that urgent relief is provided to those most in need.
Furthermore, he assured residents that his administration is in contact with relevant state and federal agencies to secure support for reconstruction efforts and long-term preventive measures.
“We are not leaving our people behind. We will continue to do everything possible to restore normalcy and prevent future occurrences,” he said.
The Chairman also called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community-based organizations to collaborate in identifying the most vulnerable individuals and offering them the necessary support.
He commended the resilience of the people and urged them to remain calm and hopeful.
