Ganduje Cancels Plan to Establish Independent Hisbah in Kano

by Ahmad Hamisu Gwale

Former Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has withdrawn plans to establish an independent Hisbah group, known as Hisbah Fisabilillahi, in Kano State.

The Independent Mirror reports that the decision was disclosed in a statement issued and signed by a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, Dr. Baffa Babba Dan Agundi.

According to the statement, the decision followed a stakeholders’ meeting involving representatives from the 44 local government areas of Kano State. The meeting was held at the Tinubu Campaign Office.

The statement explained that Ganduje’s decision to step back came after widespread public reactions and concerns over the proposed establishment of an independent Hisbah outfit.

It added that key stakeholders intervened in the matter, including the Kano State Government, the Department of State Services (DSS), and Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje himself, with the aim of preserving peace and stability in the state.

The stakeholders resolved to suspend the plan to allow the Kano State Government to review the disengagement of some Hisbah personnel and address the issue through dialogue and mutual understanding.

The statement further reaffirmed respect for the legally established Kano State Hisbah Board and expressed commitment to supporting constituted security agencies in maintaining law and order, as well as safeguarding lives and property across Kano State and the country at large.
