Ex-Hisbah Leaders Condemn Creation of New Independent Hisbah in Kano

by Ahmad Hamisu Gwale

Former Hisbah leaders in Kano, under the leadership of Professor Ibrahim Mu’azzam Mai Bushira, have warned that attempts to establish an independent Hisbah structure in the state could create divisions and undermine peaceful coexistence and security.

The Independent Mirror reports that while addressing journalists on Thursday, the former Commandant General of the Kano Hisbah Board, Professor Mai Bushira, explained that the stance was part of the resolutions reached during a stakeholders’ meeting involving former Hisbah leaders and their deputies.

Professor Mai Bushira noted that the move to form a parallel Hisbah outfit is being championed by dismissed personnel and the former Hisbah Marshal.

He cautioned that such an initiative could lead to both foreseeable and unforeseen challenges for the state.

The meeting also reviewed the implications of establishing another Hisbah organization at a time when Kano State already operates a legally recognized Hisbah Board backed by the laws of the State House of Assembly.Ex-Hisbah Commanders Accuse Kano Govt of Politically Motivated Dismissal

The former Commandant General urged the Kano State Government to enhance the welfare of Hisbah personnel through improved allowances, provision of essential working tools, and regular retraining.

He further stressed that Hisbah operations should not be politicized and that recruitment into the agency must strictly follow due process.
