Ndume Urges President Tinubu to Declare State of Emergency on Security, Economy

by Ahmad Hamisu Gwale

The lawmaker representing Borno South Senatorial District, Ali Ndume, has urged President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of emergency in Nigeria’s security and economic sectors.

The Independent Mirror reports that Ndume made this call on Friday during an interview on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television. He also criticized the President’s earlier declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State.

“Let the President forget about everything else and concentrate on three things – security, the welfare of citizens, and the economy.

“His primary focus should be on these areas, and he should declare a state of emergency accordingly,” he stated.

While describing himself as a democrat, Ndume expressed surprise over Tinubu’s declaration of emergency rule in Rivers State.

According to him, the President acted wrongly by taking that action on March 18, following the prolonged political crisis in the state.

Recall that in a nationwide broadcast, President Tinubu suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and all members of the House of Assembly for six months.

To replace Fubara, the President nominated Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd) as the administrator to oversee the affairs of the state for the first six months.

Tinubu relied on Section 305 of the 1999 Constitution to make the proclamation.
