National Population Commission Holds Workshop on Sustainable Development, Honours Dr Abdulkadir Kabara

The National Population Commission NPC with support from FCDO Lafiya Program lunches 3-Day Stakeholders Orientation Campaign on National Policy Population For Sustainable Development.

The Independent Mirror reports that the 3-days workshop was held in Kaduna State, attended by commission key stakeholders aimed to enhance the importance of population in the country.

Declaring the workshop on the first day, Honorable Federal commissioner for NPC Dr Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa highlighted the issue of population as is at the very heart of national development. Adding that Nigeria, with its dynamic and youthful population, stands at a critical juncture.

“Our population growth presents both tremendous opportunities and significant challenges. If well managed, it can yield what is known as the demographic dividend; a period when the working-age population is larger than the dependent population, thereby accelerating economic growth and development”. He added.

Dr Tsanyawa extended his profound appreciation to the FCDO Lafiya Program for their consistent and invaluable support, emphasizing that their partnership has continued to strengthen NPC capacity, foster cross-sectoral collaboration, and ensure that population issues remain a top priority in Nigerian developmental discourse.

Receiving the award, Dr Kabara expressed his gratitude and appreciation to NPC for acknowledging Lafiya support towards achieving the demographic dividend agenda in Kano and Nigeria. He also promised a continues support from FCDO Lafiya Program to National Population Commission.

He also expressed sincere gratitude to the Kano State Government for their unwavering commitment and support, expressing the active involvement of MDAs as a clear demonstration of the importance this government attach to population management as a tool for sustainable development within the state.

He appreciated the contributions of Religious and Traditional Institutions, Civil Society Organizations, Development Partners, Media, Academia, and all other stakeholders whose dedication, advocacy, and partnership continue to drive positive population and development outcomes.

On his part, Balarabe Kabir State Director for National Population Commission Kano Office, stressed the need of collaboration with Kano state government agencies in using the population growth for economic development (Demographic Dividend in Nigeria).

He also charged all the participant to organize a stepdown training for their colleagues in their respective ministries.

His highness 16 Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II who was represented by Dankadan Kano, Dr Basheer Muhammad expressed emirate’s satisfaction for organizing the workshop to discuss important issues related to NPC, education, health and nutrition among other issues.

All the participant happily thanked both the NPC and FCDO Lafiya for gathering different agencies and shared knowledge among each other.

National Population Commission presented award of excellent to Kano State team Lead for FCDO Lafiya Program Dr Abdulkadir Kabara for his invaluable support to the commission’s activities.

Receiving the award, Dr Kabara expressed his gratitude and appreciation to NPC for acknowledging Lafiya support towards achieving the demographic dividend agenda in Kano and Nigeria.

He also promised a continues support from FCDO Lafiya Program to National Population Commission.
