No fewer than 15 Kano Journalists were trained in the AGILE Project in order to improve their investigative reports, especially on AGILE Reporting in local governments.
The Independent Mirror reported that the two-day- capacity building workshop training that took place on Saturday was organized by AGILE Team Kano State.
In his welcoming remarks, Nasiru Abdullahi Kwalli, the AGILE Kano Project Coordinator, also a Facilitator, shades more light on the Introduction to the project, like Objectives, Components, and Results Framework.
He also urged journalists to use their work in order to know the knowledge and skills to effectively report on the project’s achievements.
Nasiru Kwalli also notified the journalists to maintain their challenges, and know the opportunities, as well as to raise awareness and generate public support for the project’s goals and activities.
While presenting his paper on Development Journalism, Dr Musa Abdullahi Sufi said development journalism plays a crucial role in shaping public discourse, influencing policies, and contributing to the overall development of societies.
“It goes beyond reporting news events to actively engage with the complexities of development challenges and opportunities, seeking to empower communities and foster positive change“.
He added “a development journalist is a professional who uses journalism as a tool to investigate, report, and advocate for positive social, economic, and political development“.
They play a vital role in raising awareness, fostering understanding, and contributing to informed decision-making in the realm of development issues.
“A professional journalist understands these standards and judiciously applies them in his day-to-day work and reportage.”
In his remarks while presenting his paper on Storytelling Techniques, Ahmad Muhammad Ahmad engages with communities to develop skills for human angle story to engaging with local communities, listening to their concerns, and involving them in the storytelling process.
