Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has been honoured with the Outstanding Performance Award by the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) in recognition of his remarkable achievements in sports development within the state.
The Independent Mirror reports that the award was received on behalf of the Governor by his spokesperson, Mr. Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, during the association’s 60th anniversary celebration held at the National Stadium, Abuja, on Friday.
The formal presentation to Governor Yusuf took place during the 33rd State Executive Council meeting at the Council Chamber, Government House, Kano, on Saturday.
The Director General, Media and Publicity, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, presented the award to the Governor, explaining that the National Executive Members of SWAN unanimously selected him for the Excellence Award in recognition of his significant contributions to sports development.
A statement issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad, quoted Dawakin Tofa as emphasizing that Governor Yusuf’s strategic investment in sports development is aimed at curbing youth restiveness and promoting job creation as a direct means of tackling unemployment.
The Director General, on behalf of the Kano State Government, also announced a substantial donation to the SWAN appeal fund for the establishment of its national secretariat.
He further assured that the Kano State Government, under the leadership of Governor Yusuf, remains committed to partnering with the association to promote and advance sports development not only in the state but across the country.
